Gun threat turns into hours-long standoff in North Austin
AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - Just after 8 a.m. Wednesday, Austin police got a call about a man with a gun at the 9500 block of Burnet Road.
When police arrived, they detained 13 people who told them the man with the gun was still inside.
Because the APD SWAT unit was in Bastrop on another call, DPS SWAT stepped in, used a distraction device or flash bang, and arrested the man without incident. But they also discovered this could be a location for organized crime
"What we believe is it's an illegal game room," APD Sgt. David Daniels said. "This is an ongoing investigation with our organized crime division, so the appropriate charges have not been rendered."
Business owner Javier Gomez said he wasn’t surprised by the police activity, as he always suspected something illegal may have been going on near his business.
The suspect was rolled out in a stretcher and hauled away in an EMS truck. There is no word yet on what injuries he may have.
