Healing Hugs: Texas police surprise slain officer's kids on first day of school

When Officer Justin Scherlen of the Amarillo Police Department died two weeks ago from complications from an on-duty vehicle crash, he left behind his wife, Jessica, and their kids, Fox 8 reported.

For the first time, the children’s father would not be there for them on their first day of school, so Scherlen’s department planned a very special tribute to him.

Dozens of cops—“an army of stand-ins”, as the school called them— came over to the Scherlens’ home and escorted the heartbroken kids to school.

When they arrived at school, Scherlen’s four-year-old son, Jackson, walked over and hugged every single officer. Watch the touching video below (Mobile users click here.)
