HEINZ Ketchup Smoothie debuts at Smoothie King in five cities

HEINZ and Smoothie King’s limited-edition Tomato Ketchup Smoothie blends real fruit with Simply Ketchup — now available in select cities for summer 2025. (HEINZ)

HEINZ has already weighed in on whether a hot dog is a sandwich. Now it’s tackling another great internet debate: if tomatoes are a fruit, does that make ketchup a smoothie?

To settle the question once and for all, HEINZ teamed up with Smoothie King to create what they’re calling the first-ever ketchup-based smoothie. And yes, it’s real — the HEINZ Tomato Ketchup Smoothie is now available at select Smoothie King locations across the U.S.

The limited-time drink blends HEINZ Simply Ketchup with strawberries, raspberries, apple juice, and acai sorbet to create what the brands say is a "sweet and fruity smoothie with a bright, tangy ketchup finish."

It’s launching right in the middle of tomato harvest season, when HEINZ tomatoes are at their peak flavor, and during the heat of summer — peak smoothie season.

What’s actually in it?

The backstory:

According to both brands, the drink is designed to taste like a proper fruit smoothie — with a ketchup twist. The ketchup used is HEINZ Simply, made with just seven ingredients and no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.

Smoothie King, known for its Clean Blends promise, says the ketchup smoothie meets all of its nutritional standards and skips more than 75 banned ingredients, just like the rest of its menu.

"After months of meticulous R&D, testing, and tasting, we landed on a savory-sweet blend that celebrates the tomato in all its glory," said Lori Primavera, Smoothie King’s VP of Product Marketing.

Where can you get it?

Local perspective:

The smoothie goes on sale August 6 for $5.70, but only in select markets. For now, it’s available in:

  • Atlanta
  • Chicago
  • Denver
  • Miami
  • Parts of the Greater New York area and Northern New Jersey

Supplies are limited, and there’s no word yet on whether it will expand to other cities.

Fans are encouraged to try the smoothie and join the conversation online using #KetchupSmoothie.

"The idea of a ketchup smoothie is provocative," said Angie Madigan, VP of Elevation Marketing at Kraft Heinz. "Our top priority was landing a delicious tasting fruit smoothie with distinct yet well-balanced ketchup notes. The experts at Smoothie King helped make this dream a reality."

It’s part food experiment, part meme — and 100% real. Whether you think ketchup belongs on fries, burgers, or blended with berries, this quirky collab is a reminder of how internet debates can shape real-world products.
