Historic downtown Austin church celebrates 90th anniversary

Central Christian Church of Austin is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.

On November 17, the congregation marked the milestone with a special service followed by a reception looking back at the downtown Austin church's history.

Carey Taylor says she has an especially strong bond with the church after spending nearly her whole life in the congregation.

"We moved to Austin when I was 14. We came straight to Central Christian Church, where I grew up, and then I went off to college at Texas Christian University, where I met my husband to be, and we were married here in 1951. So I have a lot of love for this church and many wonderful memories of my time here," Taylor says.

The church was built in 1929 and put on the National Register of Historical Places in 1992.
