Inauguration Day protest in Austin expects thousands

AUSTIN, TX – Thousands are expected to attend tomorrow’s Inauguration Day protest organized by One Resistance, a new non-partisan coalition of progressive grassroots organizations united in opposition to the policies of the incoming Trump administration. There will be several events leading up to tomorrow’s march.

Protesters will be rallying for civil rights, immigrants' rights, reproductive rights, our environment, good jobs, and justice and safety for all communities.

• Starting at 8 a.m. tomorrow, fast-food workers associated with the Fight for 15 movement will strike at the Carl’s Jr./Green Burrito at 609 W. Slaughter Lane, Austin TX 78748.
• At noon, students at the University of Texas are expected to walk out.
• At 3 p.m., AISD high school students are expected to walk out of schools.
• Beginning at 5:00 p.m. protesters will gather at Auditorium Shores at 900 West Riverside Drive.

Paid parking will be available in the Palmer Center garage, and the One Texas Center garage, but protesters are encouraged to use public transportation.

Protesters will march together from Auditorium Shores, up South 1st and Guadalupe to West 6th street, and back down Congress Avenue to return to Auditorium Shores for a rally highlighting the stories of the people and communities targeted by the Trump administration beginning around 6:30 p.m. One Resistance protesters will also take a “People’s Oath” – a counterbalance to Donald’s Trump’s oath.

The rally is expected to end around 7 p.m.

The One Resistance coalition came together in the week following Donald Trump’s election to begin organizing a coordinated local grassroots response to the incoming administration. The initial coalition of 15 groups agreed to organize a community protest on Inauguration Day. Since then, the coalition has expanded to over 40 participating groups, and over 3,500 people are currently expected to attend the protest.

After Friday’s rally, the One Resistance coalition plans to work together to coordinate ongoing local opposition to the Trump administration's hateful policies and rhetoric and to protect and advance the interests of the diverse communities it represents.
