Madeleine Albright pins on display at LBJ Presidential Library

Former President George H.W. Bush's memorable line "read my lips" inspired former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright's "Read My Pins" book and now her pins are part of a new exhibit at the LBJ Presidential Library.

More than 200 pins from Albright's personal collection are on display. The collection is a diverse mix ranging from elegant pins with diamonds, rubies and emeralds to ones more simple and playful.

THe pins were more than a fashionable accessory for Albright. Acting Curator Nikki Diller says Albright used them as subtle tools for diplomacy.

"She used the pins to convey a message to whoever she was meeting with. So if she was meeting with an ally for instance, maybe it would be a flower pin, but if she was meeting with an adversary, she would wear maybe a bee or wasp just to get her message across," Diller says.

Also on display is state jewelry given to President Lyndon Johnson and First Lady Lady Bird Johnson during the Johnson administration.

The exhibit runs through January 21st. You can find out more information here.
