Man dies in shooting in Wells Branch Saturday

UPDATE: APD has confirmed there is a person of interest in custody as of 3:45 p.m. Monday.


A man who died in a shooting early Saturday morning at a Wells Branch apartment complex has been identified by police.

Tony Ray Green Jr., 22, was found unresponsive by Austin fire, police and EMS units called to the Madison at Wells Branch apartment complex at 13601 Elm Ridge Lane. Austin 911 received multiple calls of possible gunshots at the complex around 2:13 a.m. Saturday.

According to APD, Green had obvious trauma to his body and despite life-saving efforts, he died from his injuries at the scene at 2:36 a.m.

The shooting appears to be an isolated incident and APD homicide detectives are actively investigating the case.

The Travis County Medical Examiner performed the autopsy Sunday.
