A New Jersey man is 30 pounds lighter after getting a massive tumor removed from what he thought was a beer belly.

Kevin Daly says he knew something was wrong when he lost 34 pounds but still maintained a protruding stomach on his 6'3" frame. He had lost the weight after 2015 open-heart surgery.

Daly convinced a doctor at New York's Lenox Hill Hospital to perform a cat scan even after his insurance company rejected the request.

The tumor contained a type of cancer that can often appear in medical tests as fatty tissue. The doctors say it is the largest tumor they've ever removed and that it likely took 10 to 15 years to develop.

His belly is now gone and doctors say his organs have also recovered.
