Firefighters in the Northwest Houston area are battling a massive warehouse fire. The 4-alarm fire broke out just before 10 this morning in Spring Branch.

The fire is affecting service to METRO Bus route 26 which will likely cause delays and detours near the intersection of Long Point Road and Hollister Street.

Following the four-alarm fire, Spring Branch Elementary students and staff boarded buses and were brought to Don Coleman Coliseum on Dairy Ashford Road near the Katy Freeway.

The Spring Branch Independent School District announced that parents of those students were free to go to the coliseum to pick up their children.

What was initially reported as a house fire in west Houston has developed into an industrial fire. The fire, which has been upgraded to four alarms, was first reported at Laverne Street near Spring Branch Drive. No injuries have been reported yet as a result of the fire.

The City of Houston confirmed that the fire has released hazardous materials which has caused the Houston Fire Department shelter-in-place order for the following boundaries until further notice:

  • North of Westview
  • West of Bingle
  • South of Hammerly
  • East of Blalock
