Middle school student found with unloaded handgun

A student at O. Henry Middle School was found with an unloaded handgun on Monday, according to Interim Police Chief Chris Evoy. 

Police and staff were notified of the gun because of a student tip. Evoy says staff acted quickly to find the student and deal with the situation. No ammunition was found with the handgun. The student was transported to Gardner-Betts Detention Center for bringing the handgun onto campus, a charge of places weapons prohibited.
