More than $4 million dollars worth of meth seized in Central Texas traffic stops
Law enforcement agencies in both Round Rock and Fayette County executed major drug busts this week.
Saturday in Round Rock an officer was making a routine traffic stop when the occupants of the car had conflicting stories. The officer and his k-9 searched the vehicle and found a modified gas tank containing 71 pounds of meth inside.
RRPD stated the street value of that amount can equal up to $2 million dollars.
Nathan Leon Fields ,36, was arrested for manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.
RRPD Sgt. Eric Mount said in his 20 plus years in law enforcement it’s the largest traffic stop drug bust in Round Rock. Prior to his position Mount was a patrol officer and said N I-35 has about a 7-mile stretch through the city and is a corridor for drug trafficking between major cities.
"Anytime that we are able to stop the traffic of narcotics it is a good thing for the community of course we have family and children and we've all seen the effects of narcotics," Mount said.
Wednesday in Fayette County Sgt. Randy Thumann and his K-9 partner Lobos seized 27 kilos of crystal meth during a traffic stop along I-10. The drugs were stored in the gas tank. Thumann arrested Felipe de Jesus Mendez Ramos ,29 for drug possession.
The street value for the seizure was $2.7 million dollars.
