New details revealed in fatal Hutto Police confrontation

The small memorial at Hutto City Hall to Sgt. Chris Kelley continued to grow around a concrete statute of the town's hippo mascot.

Shelly Wheeler and her son were among those who brought flowers Thursday.

"I work for the school district and know several of the police officers that work there and want to pay our respects for them, I know they are going through a hard time right now," said Wheeler.

That pain was evident as Hutto police officers huddled together and embraced those who were involved in the incident that claimed Kelley's life. The loss of a friend, husband, and father of two has been difficult to cope with. As residents of this small town and the law enforcement community prepare to say goodbye to Sgt. Kelley, there is new insight about how the fatal confrontation happened.

This is home surveillance video of part of the police chase that ended on Herrera Trail that Sgt. Kelley was helping with. The sports car investigators say was involved in an earlier traffic violation. After it slid into a yard and smashed into a fire hydrant. The driver, identified as Colby Williamson, fled on foot. Several blocks away near the intersection of Decker Dr. and Meadowlark Lane is where witnesses say Williamson was stopped by Sgt. Kelley. According to court documents, Williamson broke away while being handcuffed and jumped into Kelley's police unit. Investigators say Kelley tried to stop his vehicle as Williamson put it into reverse but was knocked to the ground and run-over.

In tribute to the fallen officer, Megan Harris and a friend brought blue balloons to city hall and also line Hwy 79 with them.

"That's really what it is all about, coming together as a community and just showing support over all," said Harris.

That's what motivated Misty Baker and her son Jacob, the 5 year who Baker says someday wants to wear the badge came in a uniform offered flowers and then gave a salute. The first of several to come for the fallen lawman.

Colby Williamson is currently charged with aggravated assault on a public servant.

An upgrade to murder is expected but may not happen until a grand jury review.

Williamson County District Attorney Janet Duty tells FOX 7 she may have more information regarding Williamson's charge on Friday.
