Pflugerville launching a teen court program

Instead of paying a fine or having a misdemeanor on their records, kids in Pflugerville will now get a chance to go before a jury of their own peers.

The Pflugerville City Council voted to launch a teen court program next month.

After entering their plea, juveniles coming before a judge from the docket now have the option to go before a teen court to determine their sentence. “We really don’t want the teens making that decision guilty or not guilty.  We want them involved but they are going to decide on culpability. Someone might be guilty of theft but there's a difference between stealing diapers for your baby because you need them, or robbing someone in the street,” said Judge Farren Sheehan.
