Pilot injured in small-plane crash on Hill Country highway

HORSESHOE BAY, Texas (AP) - A man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after the single-engine plane he was flying crash-landed and burned on a highway in the Central Texas Hill Country.

The crash happened about 2 p.m. Thursday on Texas 71, between U.S. 281 and Farm Road 2147 near Horseshoe Bay, about 40 miles northwest of Austin. Burnet County Precinct 4 Commissioner Joe Don Dockery told The Picayune (http://bit.ly/1GIf2RB) of Marble Falls that the pilot apparently was forced to land on the highway about a miles west of the Burnet-Llano county line. The pilot was able to escape the plane before it ignited and was walking around.

The wreckage closed the highway until around nightfall Thursday.
