Police: Baby girl killed by dog in Miramar
MIRAMAR, Fla. (FOX 13) - Police have identified the 8-month-old girl who died after being attacked by a dog in Miramar.
Investigators tell WSVN News7 in Miami the child was being watched by a family member Wednesday morning when the dog attacked. The girl's parents were not home at the time.
The little girl has been identified as Liana Valino.
“The child was in a bedroom, in a bouncy chair, and the grandmother was with the child,” Miramar Police Officer Yessenia Diaz to WSVN. “It’s very difficult for the entire department, and our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family."
The child's mother was visibly distraught, saying “She was the best thing to ever happen to me. She smiled every morning. She was my world.”
The family reportedly has several pit bull/Staffordshire Bull Terrier mixes, which have been removed for evaluation.
The fate of the dog responsible for the girl's death was still unknown.
