Austin police say 30-year-old Matthew Fernander was gunned down around 8:30 Thursday at the Concord Austin apartment complex. Officers believe he was shot while in the breezeway possibly after an altercation. While injured, they believe he walked into his apartment.

"One of the callers advised that her roommate sustained a gunshot wound and was in the apartment. Officers made entry into the apartment and found a white male who had trauma to his body,” said Ofc. Bino Cadenas, Austin Police Department.

Fernander was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.

Resident Reagan Cook says the shooting happened in her building, but she was not home yet when the shots were fired. investigators remained on scene for hours. "They were here up until we went to bed at maybe 1 or 2, I think. Then this morning, we were looking and saw some of the blood patterns. and then a cleanup crew or something was here, and they cleaned it up,” said Cook.

Austin police are asking for any information that can help lead them to his killer. "Even though they said it was an isolated situation, still be cautious and weary of your surroundings,” said Cook.
