Police on lookout for driver in deadly North Austin hit and run

UPDATE: Police have a person of interest in custody related to other charges.

Austin police are searching for the driver in a deadly North Austin hit and run.

The driver hit the two women at an apartment complex on Galewood Drive between Colony Creek Drive and Payton Gin Road in North Austin.

Austin Travis County EMS said one woman, Ernestina Limon-Ocana, died at the scene. The other woman, in her 20s, was critically injured and was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

APD Senior Patrol Officer Demitri Hobbs said the women were at a party, “There was a party and they were visiting, but they have friends here,” he said.

The women were hit by the car in an alley behind the complex, and the driver drove away. APD said they are not sure If the person hit the women on purpose but they called it a suspicious death and homicide detectives took over the investigation.  They said witnesses called 911 to report what happened and they may have seen something. 

“Talking (to) those witnesses and trying to figure out what happened and why,” Officer Hobbs said. “The vehicle that was here is not here now, and they are looking for that vehicle at this time, they did get a description from a couple witnesses.”

APD said they believe the vehicle they are looking for is a silver Honda Civic with possible damage. Police asked anyone who has any information to contact them.
 

Austin police are looking for the driver of a silver Honda Civic with possible damage connected to Sunday morning's hit and run. Police say two women were hit by a car in the alley in the 9000 block of Galewood Drive. 

One woman died at the scene and paramedics rushed the second to UMC Brackenridge with life-threatening injuries. She was taken into surgery according to police. 

Witnesses called the crash into 911 as an auto-pedestrian crash. During a press conference with APD an officer was seen leaving the scene with lights and sirens on indicating a sense of urgency in this investigation. 

Homicide detectives are taking over the investigation. They are questioning the witnesses. The fatality crash is being investigated as a suspicious death.
