Police say man jumped into Lady Bird Lake while fleeing from officers

UPDATE: Man accused of fleeing law enforcement by jumping into Lady Bird Lake agrees to board rescue boat, authorities said. 

Officials said Congress Bridge will soon be reopened. 

Austin Police are working to detain a man who jumped into Lady Bird Lake to flee officers, authorities said. 

According to police the man jumped off of South First Street bridge while fleeing from DPS troopers. 

Austin Fire Department crews and Austin-Travis County EMS medics are on scene working to retrieve the man.  Austin police lake patrol officers took a boat out into the lake and are working to persuade the man to get on board said police. 

Emergency crews have Congress Bridge partially blocked off and are redirecting lake traffic until incident is resolved, authorities said. 

According to officials the suspect is currently being evaluated but does not appear to be injured.
