Power outages across Central Texas
PFLUGERVILLE, Texas - Pflugerville ISD says many of their campuses were without power after Sunday night's storms.
Some children had to be picked up early because of the heat. They weren't the only ones affected, tens of thousands of people across Central Texas also lost power.
Austin Energy says about 1,500 people are still without power as of Monday night. Oncor Electric says about 2,500 people in the Pflugerville and Round Rock area are in the same boat. Crews continue to work on getting things fixed.
The aftermath of Sunday night's storms is still impacting people across Central Texas - from damage, to power outages. Jake and Tiffany are dealing with both, hoping they aren't forced to find another place to stay cool.
"Well we were going to stay because they said 10:00 this morning and then 2:30 p.m., now 11:00 p.m. but if they don't turn it on tonight, it's getting hot outside. You know, the house is already warming up. We have a dog in there and a kid; we have elderly people in the neighborhood. I mean, it's going to get hot. One day, okay fine, but if they can't get it done today, they need to get help,” says Tiffany Sanders, lives in Wells Branch.
Pflugerville ISD was also affected. Nine campuses and three buildings were partially without power Monday morning. Parents were given updates throughout the day.
"Campuses impacted by the power outage from last night’s storms are in process of serving sack lunches to all the students,” says Bonnie Bradshaw, Pflugerville ISD parent.
Bonnie Bradshaw has three children in three different schools within the district, so the updates were helpful. She says she ended up having to pick up her son who goes to Pflugerville Middle School.
“The A/C was going out. He called me and told me that the teachers were saying that it was okay...that they can call their parents and ask if it was okay to be picked up because it was starting to get hot inside,” says Bradshaw.
Only one school currently remains without power, Windermere Elementary. Oncor Electric says at the height of the storm, 23,00 people were without power between Pflugerville, Wells Branch and Round Rock. They say the delay is because lightning damaged fuses and other pieces of electrical equipment in many different areas, which had to be replaced. Oncor did bring in outside crews and contractors to help. As for Austin Energy, at the height of the storm 10,000 people were affected. Residents across Central Texas are just hoping things will go back to normal soon.
"It’s a little frustrating not to have power, you know - to be put out from the use of our house functionally, for that long of period of time, for something that seems like it shouldn't have been so serious,” says Jake Patterson, lives in Wells Branch.
Multiple campuses and facilities across Pflugerville ISD were impacted by power outages following Sunday's overnight storm. As of 1 p.m. crews were still working to restore power at three schools.
