Attorney Jim McGrath, spokesman for former President George H.W. Bush, released the following statement on Friday on Twitter:

President @GeorgeHWBush was discharged from @MethodistHosp after treatment for an infection. His doctors report he is doing well and is happy to return home.

From his Twitter account on Thursday, former President George H.W. Bush expressed how eager he was to be released from Houston Methodist Hospital and how pleased he was to learn of the announcement of an added Methodist Atrium, introduced by his daughter-in-law, former first Lady Laura Bush.

President Bush, 93, was moved from the intensive care unit to a regular patient room last week. He was initially admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital after contracting an infection that spread to his blood. His admission into the hospital was one day after the funeral for his wife, former first lady Barbara Bush.

The former President suffers from a form of Parkinson's disease and uses a wheelchair or electric scooter to move around.
