Presidential candidates shifting their focus to Texas with Super Tuesday around the corner

With Super Tuesday just a little more than a week away, presidential candidates are shifting their focus here on Texas.

"What we're going to do in this election is to make sure that we have a Democrat in the White House to succeed President Obama to keep our progress going," Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton was focusing on Texans just hours after her win in Nevada. She spoke to thousands of supporters who gathered at the Texas Southern University, Saturday night. On Monday, President Bill Clinton is reaching out to North Texans, for his wife. He will be speaking at Paul Quinn College in Dallas encouraging supporters to vote early and to vote on March 1st.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has been getting a lot of support from college students, where it seems Hillary Clinton's focus is now shifting. “This generation of young people is the most tolerant and connected our country has ever seen," she said.

Clinton and Sanders are locked in battle for the Democratic Party's nomination. Both, hoping to lock in as many of the 252 democratic delegates that Texas has to offer, the candidates are turning to grassroots support. "I believe that when democrats assemble in Philadelphia in July, at that convention, we are going to see the results of one of the great political upsets in the history of the United States," said Sanders. No word yet on a Bernie Sanders appearance here in the Lone Star State.

In the GOP race, Senator Ted Cruz seems to be dueling it out with Donald Trump for the 155 GOP delegates in Texas. Many may think Senator Cruz has it in the bag considering Texas is his home state. But, according to realclearpolitics.com, right now Cruz only has a 7% lead over Donald Trump. "We started out with 17 people, I've been hit from, you know, 97 different angles. And now we're down to just, I guess, five and we'll see what happens," Trump said.

Senator Cruz is also going for that grassroots support. "The screaming you hear now from across the Potomac is the Washington cartel in full terror that the conservative grassroots are rising up," he said. Heidi Cruz, wife of Senator Cruz is making a few appearances in Southeast Texas on behalf of her husband, but, no word yet on any GOP candidate appearances here in Texas.
