Record of inappropriate relationships with students?

The McNeil High School Track coach and Math teacher who was arrested last week for an alleged inappropriate relationship with his student had faced similar allegations before.

From 1997 to March 2000, Christopher Cotten worked as a Coach and Math teacher at AISD. That's when the District says he resigned. And in a statement they add, "When the district became aware of inappropriate instant messaging between himself and an Austin High School student. The district investigation did not reveal anything further than the inappropriate exchange of messages."

AISD also says at the time there was no law prohibiting an inappropriate teacher student relationship. It would be passed in 2003.

The forty-one year old was arrested last Thursday after a McNeil student told school officials he was having an inappropriate relationship with her friend. That victim confirmed it and the arrest warrant shows Williamson County Sheriff's were able to recover texts and explicit photos from the the sixteen year old's phone.

The McNeil Math teacher and Track coach is out on ten thousand dollars bond. Of the explosive allegations from his past, a Round Rock ISD spokesperson tells FOX 7, Cotten came to their district in 2004 from Pflugerville.

In a statement they add, "Records indicate his references as being his previous Middle School Principal at PISD and the athletic coordinator at Pflugerville High School. The former head coach at Austin High School was also contacted prior to Cotten's hiring. There was no mention of any previous incidents according to our records."

Cotten is on paid leave as this investigation is ongoing. The Williamson Sheriff's Department tells FOX 7, they are aware of the AISD allegations and are in contact with the District. As for Plugerville ISD where Cotten worked just before heading to Round Rock, they have not returned FOX 7's repeated requests for comment.

Cotten's address is listed to be in a suburb in Cedar Park, the neighborhood is also filled with kids. Their parents not wanting to go on camera but calling the allegations disturbing. The Cotten's would not open the door when FOX 7 knocked.
