Rodeo Austin Youth Auction raises money for Texas students

The annual Rodeo Austin youth auction is set to take place throughout the day on Friday.

The auction includes grand champion steers, goats, lambs and barrows. It's the grand finale of the Junior Livestock show, where Texas students have spent the last two weeks showing off their animals in hopes of getting a spot in the coveted Youth Auction. The event will include 416 students.

Rodeo Austin says the money raised goes directly to the 4-H and FFA students so they can save for college, invest in other livestock projects or have money for future endeavors. The auction raised a record-breaking $1.44 million in 2017, according to the Rodeo Austin.

The schedule for this year's auction is as follows:

9:30 a.m.         Youth Auction Opening Ceremony and Poultry Auction
10:15 a.m.       Goat Auction
12:00 p.m.       Grand Champion Steer Auction
1:30 p.m.         Lamb Auction
3:00 p.m.         Barrow Auction

FOX 7 Austin will be live streaming the Grand Champion Steer Auction on Facebook at noon.
