Rowlett officer has close call with falling utility pole

It was a close call for a Rowlett police officer when a utility pole fell in front of his SUV.

A minivan hit the pole as police tried to pull the driver over Friday. The minivan then rolled over.

The crash was captured on dash cam video. Officer Chad Caldwell rushed to pull the woman out of the van.

It wasn’t until later that he realized how close the pole actually came to landing on his vehicle.

“You’re so focused on doing your job in those situations, you don’t have time to think. You just want to make sure everyone is safe and you get the job done,” Officer Caldwell said.

Police believe the driver of the minivan may have had some sort of medical emergency. But, there’s no official word on her condition or the cause of the crash.

Officer Caldwell was not hurt.
