Signing Santa Claus to pay special visit to Barton Creek Square for deaf, hard-of-hearing children
AUSTIN, Texas - Santa Claus knows all languages, including American sign language, and he arrives at Barton Creek Square mall Wednesday afternoon, ready to check the wish lists of Austin-area children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.
Signing Santa is a tradition that began in 2004 by the North Austin Optimist Club and continues thanks to the kindness of Simon Management at Barton Creek Square and Michael Barker Photography, says the Texas School for the Deaf in a release.
The festivities start at 4 p.m. on Dec. 11 at Entrance B on the first floor between the Cheesecake Factory and the AMC Theater.
Children who communicate in sign language will have the opportunity to wait for their turn to relay their wish lists directly to Santa who is deaf like them.
Every child or family gets to take home a free photo and a small treat from his workshop while enjoying holiday music with students from Texas School for the Deaf's Sign Choir.
