Southbound express lanes on MoPac open

Drivers could see an improvement in MoPac congestion now that the southbound express lanes are open. The lanes opened over the weekend and now drivers will be able to travel the full express lanes in both directions on MoPac.

The total stretch of the southbound toll lane runs 11 miles. That's from Parmer Lane to the Cesar Chavez-Fifth Street exit to downtown.

People can drive the entire length which is broken down into two segments or they can enter or exit the toll lane between Far West and RM 2222.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority is asking everyone to drive carefully. Crews are still working and putting the final touches on soundwalls and landscaping. That's expected to last for a few months.

Officials expect demand to be high for the southbound lanes especially during the morning and afternoon. The high demand could lead to some high prices so drivers should pay attention.

Prices vary anywhere from 25 cents to nearly $9 when using the toll lanes.
