Surveillance video of St. Cloud mall stabbings reviewed

The number of stabbing victims from an attack at the Crossroads Center mall in St. Cloud, Minnesota climbed to 10 on Monday after an additional victim came forward.  The 21-year-old man from St. Cloud told investigators that, due to the nature of his injuries, he did not initially seek medical attention and did not notify police.

The mall stabbings are being investigated as a possible act of terrorism. Investigators are trying to comb through every piece of surveillance video from stores inside the mall that may show Saturday night’s attack
According to St. Cloud police, a man wearing a security uniform, identified by family as 22-year-old Dahir Adan, stabbed multiple people before he was shot and killed by part-time, off-duty Avon Police Officer Jason Falconer.

St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis said he was able to view surveillance video of the chaos inside the mall and Adan's final encounter with Falconer.

“You see him immediately lunge forward with the knife, lunge forward at approximately 20 feet or more, in a very rapid period of time -- less than two seconds,” Kleis said. “And you see the officer fire. You see the suspect went down, he got back up. The officer fired again, he got back up. This was three times.”

St. Cloud Police Chief William Blair Anderson said the investigation so far shows that the attacker acted alone and the mall incident is not connected to the bombings in New York and New Jersey.

“Right now we are trying to find out as much as we possibly can about that individual,” Chief Anderson said. “The directive I gave my staff is I want to know everything about this individual since the day he was born until last Saturday.”

Crossroads Center reopened Monday morning with an increased security presence. Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton met with St. Cloud city leaders, offering support and urging Minnesotans to come together. The governor also said President Obama has been briefed on the situation and is impressed with the cooperation among federal, state and local law enforcement during this investigation.
