Suspect arrested for murder at AAA Fire and Safety Equipment Company

UPDATE: The Austin Police Department has arrested 40-year-old Sidney Parker for the murder of Majid Hemmasi and the attempted murder of M. Jiminez. Parker has been booked into the Travis County Jail.

Police say a disturbance in Northeast Austin resulted in a shooting, leaving one man dead and a woman injured. It happened around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday night near Airport Boulevard and Guadalupe Street.

Police surrounded the front parking lot of a business called AAA Fire and Safety Equipment Company. A truck was parked there with the windows shot out.

Austin Police said 59-year-old Majid Hemmasi was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police also found a woman who had been shot. She was taken to the hospital and police say she is expected to survive.

There was heavy police presence for hours, including investigators collecting evidence and an officer manning the area with a rifle.

FOX 7 spoke to one witness on scene who says the man who was shot and killed was his landlord. That witness wishes to conceal his name but is shocked about what happened.

"It's unfortunate somebody would just shoot him up like that because like I said, he always helped people. From what I know, he helped everybody. He's been in marches and protesting for blacks and minorities, that's where I know him from."

A motive for the shooting has not yet been determined. Police also don't have a description of a suspect but at this time, don't believe the public is any danger.

If you were in the area and saw or heard anything, you're asked to call APD.
