Suspicious items found in New Braunfels turn out to be construction blasting caps
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - Two suspicious devices found by a New Braunfels resident Saturday turned out to be not so suspicious.
The New Braunfels police and fire departments responded to the 100 block of South Academy Avenue around noon Saturday for a report of two suspicious devices found by a resident.
According to a release from New Braunfels PD, the man had recently purchased the contents of a storage unit and after bringing the contents home, found the items and called New Braunfels PD who in turn called in the San Antonio Police Department Bomb Squad and ATF for assistance.
The home was evacuated as a precaution and the area around the home was closed off while the SAPD bomb squad safely detonated the items. The controlled detonations caused no injuries or damage and the items were rendered safe.
Police determined the items to be small blasting caps used for construction that were being stored incorrectly. According to New Braunfels PD, there will be no further investigation into this incident and the area has since been reopened.
