Suspicious package at middle school cleared by APD

UPDATE: The package has been cleared by the APD bomb squad and the scene is now safe, according to police. Parents and drivers are being warned that there is still a heavy police presence in the area, so be patient with traffic.

 


 

Officers with the Austin Police Department and Austin Independent School District Police Department are responding to a suspicious package in a parking lot of a middle school. 

According to AISD police, officers are currently responding to a parking lot at the Covington Middle School, in the 3700 block of Convict Hill Road in southwest Austin. Police officers are asking drivers to avoid the area and to use alternate routes if possible. 

 

 

 

 

There was no lockout at the school but is under a lockout, according to AISD. The Covington Middle School let students out at their normal time at 3:45 p.m. before the suspicious package was discovered. Parents who still need to pick up their children from the middle school can do so at the circle drive off Lochinvar Street on the east side of campus, according to AISD police.
