Suspicious package has been cleared, I-35 reopens

GEORGETOWN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - UPDATE: The Austin Police Department Bomb Squad responded, inspected the item, and found it was not a dangerous device. All southbound lanes of I-35 have re-opened.
Drivers in Georgetown are being asked to use alternate routes while first responders assess a suspicious object / package that was found on the shoulder of I-35.
According to the Georgetown Police Department, officers were called to I-35, near Inner Space Caverns, around 10 a.m. for reports of a suspicious object or package on the right hand shoulder of the highway. The APD Bomb Squad is also assisting with the assessment.
All southbound lanes of I-35 have been shut down and traffic is being diverted off the Leander Road exit. Please avoid the area and use alternate routes if you can.
