Taylor police investigating first fatal collision of the year

The Taylor Police Department says it is investigating its first fatal collision of the year.

The crash happened at around 5:45 a.m. on Monday, June 1 in the 300 block of Carlos Parker Boulevard SW in Taylor.

Police say the preliminary investigation shows that 24-year-old Dillon Patrick Coy was driving a 2001 Honda Civic westbound on Carlos Parker Boulevard SW when he went off the roadway.

Coy struck a reflector pole on the right side of the roadway before he over-corrected, veered left, and then crossed the median into oncoming traffic. He then struck an 18-wheeler.

Coy was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the 18-wheeler, identified as 56-year-old Theodore Dalton Wells, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Seton Williamson County Medical Center.

Police say no charges are expected to be filed at this time.
