Three-alarm fire sends 3 AFD firefighters to hospital with burns

UPDATE: AFD releases names of injured firefighters 

AUSTIN, Texas-- Dozens of firefighters battled a three-alarm fire at the Dry Creek West Condos in Central Austin Sunday morning.

It started just after 7:30 A.M. in the 3800 block of Dry Creek. When the first crews arrived, they immediately requested back-up after seeing heavy smoke and flames. Within an hour, the call was upgraded to a three-alarm fire and crews took a defensive approach to fight it.

The fire sent three AFD firefighters to the hospital with second degree burns. According to Division Chief Palmer Buck, they were briefly trapped when part of a condo collapsed. They are in the good condition at UMC Brackenridge.

Officials have identified the injured firefighters as:
Lt. Jeremy Burke, assigned to E14/C Shift, 16 year veteran
Firefighter Wille Cook, assigned to E 31/A Shift, 16 year veteran
Firefighter Jimmy Casares, assigned to E18/A Shift, 4 year veteran

AFD since issued a statement on the conditions of the three firefighters:

AFD investigators are trying to pin-point where and what started the fire. The investigation is still ongoing.
