The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a double-fatal fire in Bastrop county. The fire started just after 4 A.M. Sunday morning on Pinewood Drive off State Highway 21.

Authorities said a man went to a neighbor's house to report the fire. His wife, 57-year-old Melinda Goers, did not make it out and died of smoke inhalation.

26-year-old Lawrence Hernandez Jr. also died of smoke inhalation. Another couple living in the house made it out safely.

FOX 7 spoke with a neighbor who said Melinda was a sweet and kind person, adding that she was a veteran. Melinda's Facebook page said she served in the U.S. Air Force.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the deadly fire.

Just a couple walls are still standing on what appears to be a mobile home. Someone left a teddy bear and a message for those who died.

Investigators will then turn over that information to the Sheriff's Office, who is heading up this case.
