Two recovering in hospital following wrong way crash on I-35

Two people were taken to a hospital in critical condition Sunday morning after a wrong way crash on I-35. Austin police say the car was going south on the northbound side of the interstate near the Slaughter exit, when it hit a light pole.

The Austin Police Department says around 4 a.m. Sunday they received multiple calls about a reckless driver going south out of a northbound lane on I-35.

A video taken by a Fox 7 Austin viewer shows the reckless driver, traveling near William Cannon Drive, barely miss another car.

Both the driver and passenger, described as men in their 20s, were taken to the hospital on Sunday, and as of Monday evening APD says the passenger will likely survive. The driver is “life critically injured.”

APD says an 18 wheeler driver saw the crash and blocked the highway to help police out.

Police say "wrong way" driving happens way more than it should. APD says they receive a handful of calls every week.
