University of Texas police investigating reported sex assault on campus

Campus police at the University of Texas are actively investigating a report of a student being sexually assaulted.

According to UTPD, a male student called 9-1-1 Wednesday night, reporting he had been sexually assaulted. He says it happened while he was using the bathroom inside Bellmont Hall, which is located next to the football stadium on San Jacinto Boulevard.

The victim says he was using the restroom around 8:15 p.m. when a man came inside and sexually assaulted him. He says he didn’t know the person.

The student has identified the attacker as a white man, possibly wearing glasses. He was reportedly dressed in tan pants and brown or gray hiking boots. The student believes the attacker was older than a teenager.

People are asked to call 9-1-1 if they saw anyone matching the description in the area or know anything about the case.

Police have increased patrols in the area, but they want to remind everyone about SURE Walk and SURE Ride programs. Any time a student feels unsafe walking through campus, these services can help.

SURE Walk provides someone to walk with you to your car, classroom, dorm or anywhere on campus. It's available from 8:30 at night until 2:00 in the morning. People just need to call 512-232-9255 or email

The SURE Ride program gives students a free ride. For that, email
