VP Mike Pence in Austin for Republican Governors Association conference
Vice President Mike Pence is in Austin to attend the Republican Governors Association annual conference.
Pence is the keynote speaker for the two day event which kicks off today. He is scheduled to speak at around 3:15 PM (CT) right after Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
The annual event brings GOP governors from across the nation together talk about policies important to the party.
Pence is showing strong support to help Gov. Abbott get re-elected. He headlined a fundraiser recently in Washington, D.C. for Abbott's campaign.
Before Pence speaks he's expected to be briefed on Hurricane Harvey relief and recovery efforts.
Meanwhile Pence's wife Karen will be at the Dell Children's Medical Center which has an art therapy program. Karen Pence is expected to observe an art session with a six-year-old patient. She will then look at artwork created in the sessions and participate in a roundtable discussion.
Art therapy is a cause that Karen has championed. She recently helped put together 800 art supply kits for art therapists in children's hospitals across the U.S. The goal is to have 150,000 kits donated by the end of the year.
The Pences are expected to head back to Washington, D.C. later today.
