WATCH: Haven't you always wanted to be like the Golden Girls?
NEW YORK, NY - Ever dreamed of living out your golden years in a house with your best friends? Well Freida and Loretta get to do just that.
Frieda moved to New York from Louisiana when the MTA ride cost just a dime. However, with her husband’s recent passing and her son moving out, she didn’t want to live alone. So The New York Foundation introduced her to Loretta. This match made in heaven is not only good for their souls but also for their wallets. House sharing makes life much more affordable for seniors.
The New York Foundation, a non-profit, matches elderly hosts and guests for free. Linda Hoffman created the Foundation in 1980, and answers over 17,000 requests for housing a year.
The program works so well that now Korea has contact Linda to take this model and set it up for seniors in their country. It looks like American’s aren’t the only Golden Girl fans. But in the end, it is all about companionship. To the New York Foundation, thank you for being a friend.
