Wendy Davis speaks out before Supreme Court HB2 arguments
Former Texas state senator Wendy Davis released a statement regarding Wednesday's Supreme Court oral arguments on HB2, an anti-abortion bill. Davis led a filibuster on the bill back in 2013.
The statement reads:
The Texas abortion law, HB2, requires clinic physicians to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles and a separate provision would mandate that abortion clinics must have costly hospital-grade facilities.
Experts said the bill will reduce the number of abortion providers in the state to six and many agree the bill will have a serious impact on abortion access fearing many women will have to travel farther or go to more dangerous lengths to access abortion care.
HB2 was signed into law by Governor Rick Perry on July 18, 2013.
