Police were called to a home in the Lakeview area on Argonne Blvd. on May 7 after a neighbor reported the door to the home was open and some chickens were walking around the house, according to FOX 8 Live.
An officer who arrived at the home stated there were "piles of trash buildup" covering the floors of the home, along with feces. There was evidence of hoarding inside the home as well.
Officers then located the mummified body of 31-year-old Charles Hainsworth.
Hainsworth’s 73-year-old mother, Barbara, was later found at the intersection of Argonne and Harrison.
She told police that her son had suffered from a brain tumor and schizophrenia. She also confirmed to police that her son had died nine months prior to police discovering his body.
Hainsworth’s cause of death has yet to be determined, but sources told Nola.com that he weighed at least 600 pounds.
His body was transported and his mother was taken for further medical assistance.
