Woman's body found in East Bouldin Creek

Austin police blocked off the area surrounding The Soup Peddler Saturday afternoon due to a woman's body found nearby.

The restaurant says customers called 9-1-1 after seeing a woman lying face down in East Bouldin Creek.

Businesses on West Mary Street say the water levels in the creek were high during Friday night's showers.

"The weather was crazy last night, there were moments where it was letting up but it kept coming down pretty hard,” manager Camael Noah said.

People who live in the area say when it rains it typically floods near East Bouldin Creek.

Police believe weather may have been a factor in the woman's death.

"We are treating it as something probably due to weather but not a suspicious death, nothing suspicious about it,” said APD Cpl. Terrell Johnson.

Police cannot say how long the woman has been in the creek and they have yet to identify her.

The woman's body has been sent to the medical examiner's office to determine cause of death.
