Wounded veterans riding from Austin to Charleston

Some Wounded Warriors are showing their resilience to the world by taking part in a nearly 2,000 mile ride from Austin to Charleston, South Carolina.

The annual Road Warrior Ride began in 2014 and serves as a way to provide what's called "adventure therapy" to veterans.

The 10 riders are wounded military veterans who were selected to participate after an application process. 

One rider is Duane McGhghy who joined the U.S. Army in 2005. His unit deployed to Baghdad two years later and while there his vehicle was hit by an explosive. McGhghy was injured and had to have a below-the-knee amputation.

McGhghy says he's looking forward to the ride because they can "...get together with other military veterans, around your age. Guys that have been through the same things you've been through. So it's just really it's always cool to get to do things like that.

Another rider is Wesley Glisson who was in the Air Force for about 12 years. Like McGhghy, Glisson was deployed to Baghdad where Glisson was shot in the head in 2009.

The Wounded Warriors leave Austin on October 22nd and plan to arrive in Charleston on the 28th where they will have a welcome celebration.
