More wet weather on the way for Central Texas
AUSTIN, Texas - After a few warm, dry days, showers are set to return to Central Texas. Highs Sunday and Monday are expected to peak in the upper 70°s and low 80°s before a cold front sweeps in.
Into Tuesday, the front is expected to pass through before lunchtime. Ahead of the cold front, most will see highs between 65° and 70°. Behind it, temperatures will fall into the 50°s for the rest of the day.
A few light showers are expected Tuesday with most areas picking up less than a quarter of an inch of rain.
By Wednesday, upper-level energy will make its way into Texas from the west. This disturbance will help to trigger showers starting early Wednesday morning and lasting into Thursday. Some showers may produce heavy rainfall at times, but with the ongoing drought conditions, widespread flash flooding isn’t expected.
Between Tuesday and Thursday, average rainfall totals around Central Texas will be between 1” and 2”.
Starting Tuesday, the area will also experience another string of chilly days. Highs Wednesday will climb into the upper 40°s and low 50°s. Thursday will be just a bit cooler.
While there will be a chill in the air, daytime and nighttime temperatures will remain above freezing so wintry precipitation is not anticipated.
So far this month, Camp Mabry has seen 1.79” of rain and Austin Bergstrom International Airport has picked up 1.28” of rain.
