12-year-old girl found, being evaluated for injuries

Police say a Houston girl who had been missing since Tuesday has been located.

Police say Jennifer Castillo, 12, is being evaluated for injuries and is speaking with officers. She is being taken to the hospital in stable condition.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to a report of a person injured in the 6600 block of Harbor Town Driver around 9 p.m. and located Castillo, who was at the location by herself. Police say she was located within the apartment complex in which she resides and was last seen.

A Houston Regional Amber Alert that was issued for Castillo early Thursday morning has been canceled.

"We’re absolutely sure there was a threat made [against Castillo]," said Houston Police Department Detective D. Crowder at a press conference on Thursday morning. "There was no ambiguity to the messages that we've received."

Castillo was last seen at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8 on Harbor Town Drive in southwest Houston. Detectives said she went outside the apartment were she lived to make a phone call. They stated that they believe she knows her abductor but did not say anything about their relationship.

Detectives believed Castillo was still in Harris County based on the last calls she made.

The Texas Center for the Missing in Houston issues Amber Alerts for the region. Melissa Rangel, case manager with the organization, said sharing the alert, especially on social media, can make a difference.

"Everything can go viral within minutes and within seconds and every second counts when your child is missing," Rangel told FOX 26 News. She added that 94 percent of all the victims involved in Amber Alerts through the center have been recovered.
