5 foods to keep away from your pets this Thanksgiving
(FOX) - While you might want to share your Thanksgiving feast with your furry family members, you must protect your pets by keeping dangerous holiday foods away from them.
Here are some foods you should NEVER feed your pet at Thanksgiving:
- Turkey skin or turkey bones- Fatty trimmings, cooked or uncooked, can cause pancreatitis in dogs. Bones can cause choking or even splinter and block or cut your dog's digestive system.
- Raisins and grapes- These can cause kidney failure in dogs, and just a small amount can make a dog sick.
- Onions and garlic- They both contain the chemical thiosulfate, which is harmful to our four-legged friends. Over time, it can cause breathing problems and damage to red blood cells.
- Yeast dough- This is a definite no-go. It can rise and cause gas to accumulate in your pet’s digestive system. This can cause painful stomach bloating and could become a life-threatening emergency.
- Chocolate- Consumption of chocolate can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, and seizures, as well as death.
So keep these foods off the menu for Fido. He’ll stay healthy and happy-- and thankful for you.
