Airbnb activates open homes program in Central Texas
Airbnb has activated their open homes program in Central Texas.
The open homes program offers temporary housing to those who need to leave their homes because of ongoing flooding threats. Since 2012, Airbnb has helped thousands of people find safe, welcoming places to stay while they rebuild their lives after natural disasters, wars, conflict, and other events.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott held a press conference to add additional counties to a state disaster declaration as more rain is expected in the upcoming week. Abbott also cautioned people on Friday to prepare for flooding as massive amounts of storm water moves downstream.
This week, a bridge was destroyed by raging floodwaters along the Llano River.
