AISD board members discuss name changing policy
AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin ISD school board is recharging its debate on changing the names of schools associated with the Confederacy.
The district has five schools names up for consideration: John T. Allan facility, Fulmore Middle, Lanier High, Reagan High, and Eastside Memorial at Johnston Campus.
Monday night was a work session to talk about what the policy is if they do move forward in changing these names. Trustees had the opportunities to express how they feel about the proposed policy and changing names as a whole.
“We also gave information on the engagement process and some amended timelines we shares with the board as well. No decision has been made by the school board to initiate the actual process, that still would have to come up for a vote and that could happen at the end of the month,” said Brian Hill, special projects lead for Austin ISD superintendent.
The next board meeting will be held Feb.26.
