All clear at Round Rock ISD school following suspicious package

A suspicious package was found around the portable buildings at Canyon Vista Middle School on Thursday morning, school officials said. The Austin Police Department investigated the incident and found the package was an empty box that posed no threat.

During the investigation students and staff in the portable buildings were evacuated. Normal activities resumed around 9:45 a.m. after APD cleared the scene.

Taking the appropriate safety precautions, students in our portable buildings were evacuated into the campus building at approximately 8:45 a.m. as the Austin Police Department investigated a suspicious package in the area. Through the investigation it was found that the package was an empty box and posed no threat to students or staff at any time.

During the investigation, students and staff remained safely in the building and continued the academic day once cleared by the APD at 9:45 a.m. We are extremely proud of the way our students and staff responded to the incident this morning.
