All occupants safe following large fire in South Austin

The Austin Fire Department says a large structure fire in South Austin is now under control.

The fire started at around 4 a.m. in the 400 block of Banister Lane near US 290.

AFD officials say that the fire started at a three story condo complex that's under construction. The fire spread to a nearby parking lot as well as nearby apartment complexes. Officials say a number of cars and some apartment units in the apartment complexes were destroyed.

Austin-Travis County EMS says that one woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and another person refused to be treated. Officials say one firefighter was transported from the scene to a local hospital in stable condition.

The Austin Fire Department says that all occupants are accounted for.

Power poles in the area also caught on fire and Austin Energy said that about 1,000 customers were without power. As of around 6:30 a.m., officials with Austin Energy says that nearly 800 customers have had power restored. Close to 300 customers will be without power until damaged poles and wires can be replaced.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
