APD announces DWI Enforcement Initiative for Mardi Gras/Super Bowl
The Austin Police Department is launching another DWI Enforcement Initiative as we enter a major weekend of celebrations.
It starts Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. and wraps up the following morning at 5 a.m. The "no refusal" runs concurrently with the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras.
Anyone suspected of drunk driving who refuses a breathalyzer will be forced by court order to give a blood or breath sample.
To make sure people won't drink and drive, police plan to saturate the roads.
Police say if you plan on drinking always designate a driver before you go anywhere.
If you get stuck somewhere and you've been drinking you're advised to take public transportation or call a taxi or ride share service to get you home safely.
